  • Cowgirl spikers outgun WNMU

    Led by 11 kills and two and a half blocks from Andrea Nuñez, the New Mexico Highlands volleyball team swept Western New Mexico on Tuesday night at the Wilson Complex.

    It was the second win in three matches for the Cowgirls (6-10 overall, 2-5 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference).

  • Youth Soccer - Oct. 3

    The following are Las Vegas Youth Soccer League matches scheduled for this coming weekend.

    The volunteer-run LVYSL is the second-largest youth sports activity in the Meadow City with nearly 300 participants ranging in age from 4 to 13.

  • Lady Dons fall in 3

    Española Valley ran its record to 8-2 overall on Tuesday night with a three-game sweep of visiting West Las Vegas, 25-18, 25-19, 25-10.

    The Lady Dons fell to 5-3 under first-year head coach Karli Salazar, whose father coaches the Española program.

    West was to play at Santa Rosa on Thursday.

    Conchas Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits, jerk bait, tubes, worms and salt craws for smallmouth bass and an occasional largemouth bass. Fishing slow to fair using crank baits for white bass. Fishing for catfish fair using stink baits, chicken liver and homemade dough baits. Surface water temp low to mid 70s.
    Coyote Creek: Trout fishing fair to good using small copper John Barrs, salmon eggs and worms.
    Morphy Lake: Fishing fair using worms, Power Bait, Pistol Petes and salmon eggs for trout.

  • Lady Card spikers nab third in...

    Alicia Arguello and Hannah Lopez earned all-tourney honors in helping Robertson capture third place in this past weekend’s Sandia Prep Invitational in Albuquerque.

    “I’m really proud of the girls,” said first-year head coach Dominique Montoya. “They’re making improvements and working together.”

    RHS finished second in pool play with fourth-ranked Bosque, Socorro and Tularosa. Then the Lady Cardinals beat East Mountain 27-25, 21-25, 25-8, 25-13, in the first round of bracket play.

    Amanda Ortzow, Jayme Quintana and Alonzo Chavez all have built reputations for athletic prowess grown right here in northern New Mexico.

    Their fan bases in Las Vegas and Mora have seen them produce moments of triumph in training and competition.
    On Saturday, they added to the memories by helping New Mexico Highlands cross country sweep the women’s and men’s team championships of the annual NMHU XC Jam.
