  • HU’s Carney invited to NFLPA bowl

    The NFL Players Association is proud to announce that punter Patrick Carney of New Mexico Highlands has committed to play in the 2015 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

    Patrick Carney earned four All-America nods for his senior campaign: Daktronics First-Team All-American, USA College Football First-Team All-America, All-America by Beyond Sports Network and Academic All-America by Capital One Academic All-America as selected by CoSIDA. The Chico, Calif., native is majoring in business administration and maintains a 3.75 grade point average.

  • Four from RHS 1st team all-state

    On the heels of a senior campaign in which she led the state in scoring and captained her team to the state semifinals, Robertson’s Caitlin Diefendorf achieved all-state recognition in girls’ soccer.

    It was the third consecutive season Diefendorf has been named to the first-team all-state squad as recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. She was an honorable mention as a freshman and has been a first-teamer the past three years.

  • Stu Clark tourney tips off Friday

    Las Vegas’ annual holiday hoops showcase tips off at 1 o’clock on Friday, bringing a three-day weekend of boys’ basketball to New Mexico Highlands University’s Wilson Complex.

    Tournament passes for each daily session are available for $12 each.

    Two of Class 4A girls’ basketball’s premier programs — No. 1 Portales and No. 2 Hope Christian — were in town over the weekend, providing a monumental challenge for the locals.

    It was a tall order in particular for Robertson’s Lady Cardinals, who hosted Portales on Friday, then Hope on Saturday.

    Robertson led several times and was within four points with two and a half minutes left Saturday in an eventual 39-30 defeat to the Huskies.
