    The Mora Rangers earned the No. 2 seed in the Class 1A-2A state baseball bracket and will take on No. 7 Dora at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Rio Rancho High School.

    Robertson baseball defeated Sandia Prep 11-3 on Saturday, sweeping their best-of-three playoff series two games to none.

    The Cardinals will play Bernalillo at 4 p.m. Thursday in the 4A quarterfinals; the game will be at Rio Rancho High.

    Also Saturday, West Las Vegas lost game two at Portales, 7-3, and has been eliminated from the tournament.

    Led by three all-district selections, the Robertson boys' golf team captured the District 2&3 1A-4A championship this past week in Taos.

    Sam Hillis was honored as Coach of the Year for the district. Noah Gonzalez, Justin L'Esperance and Charlie Hillis earned all-district recognition as well. They, along with teammates Kyle Conway and Leon Lujan, will begin play in the Class 1A-4A state tournament with Sunday's practice round and Monday's tee times starting 8 a.m. at The Canyon Club in Albuquerque.

    Robertson’s quest for a history-making fifth consecutive state championship in girls’ tennis stayed on track Friday morning, as the Lady Cardinals shut out No. 8 seed Raton 9-0, winning six singles and three doubles matches.

    On Saturday morning, the Lady Cards will meet No. 4 Portales, which knocked off No. 5 Bosque 7-2 in another Friday quarterfinal. The other half of the draw pits No. 2 St. Mike’s against No. 3 Mesilla Valley Christian. The Lady Horsemen rode past No. 7 Sandia Prep 8-1 while the Sonblazers edged No. 6 Santa Fe Prep 5-4.

    Brandon Lucero threw a no-hitter Friday, putting the Robertson baseball team one win away from advancing to the Class 4A state quarterfinals.

    Robertson, the No. 3 seed, blanked visiting Sandia Prep 3-0 at Memorial Middle School’s Whorton Field. The best-of-three, first-round series resumes at 11 a.m. Saturday.

  • State track: Panthers in third...

    The Pecos Panthers sit in third place after day one of the small-school state track and field championships being held at UNM Track and Soccer Complex in Albuquerque.

    Only five events have been scored, but Pecos (13 points) trails Dexter (24) and Santa Fe Prep (18) in the 3A boys’ standings. All but one of the Panthers’ points came from their 2-3-4 finish in the 1,600-meter run final.

    Robertson tennis keeps on rolling, beginning its state championship weekend by capturing three of four individual titles Thursday at the Jerry Cline Complex in Albuquerque.

    The RHS girls seek to win a fifth straight team championship while the boys go for a repeat Friday and Saturday at Albuquerque Academy.
