    Opposed to liquor license transfer
San Miguel County commissioners are being asked to approve or deny a package liquor license to the Giant station at the intersection of Interstate 25 and U.S. 84.

Concerned citizens will meet at the Sheridan Fire Station, Romeroville, on Feb. 1 from 5 to 6 p.m. to voice their concerns and sign a petition against approving the license.

Petitions will be presented to commissioners at February’s Commission meeting, Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. in the County Commission chambers.

    Mourning the loss of civility
His overblown facial expressions are reminiscent of another fascist demagogue — Benito Mussolini.

Repugnant defines everything about the man ... sworn in as the president of the USA. He’s an insult to the office and a threat to democracy, an idea which we, the people believe is a given when it is not.

I fear for the future and mourn for the loss of civility, once also seen as a given. Not so. Bellicose behavior is the new style. What might come of it is hard to think of.

    Difficult time attracting MDs
Over the past few months some members of our community and the local hospital have been in conflict over the unavoidable closing of one service due to lack of physicians to oversee the care. Unfortunately, this response has had a negative impact on the ability of the hospital to recruit physicians in general, and so the search continues to fill needed services.

Artist angry over use of work
I am writing to you about two myths: one, the La Llorona myth and two, the myth that artists live on love and air sandwiches. I know a lot about both.

    Look at school leadership
Just read in the Optic where the West Las Vegas Superintendent is concerned with the latest district grades.

His solution is to develop a strategy of improvement by using a data driven scenario. It appears to us that he is leading from behind. One cannot wait for data to move forward. Data must be evaluated on a monthly basis with administration and staff so that immediate solutions can be developed and implemented. One cannot wait from year to year.

    Age makes all the difference
Adele Zimmerman of Embudo recently wrote the Optic about abortion.

She tugged at our heartstrings with compassionate tales of irresponsibility and suffering for non- “affluent” people who’ll not be able to get free or cheap abortions in the future, or so she says.  In contrast, she apparently has no such feelings for dismembered little ones in the womb.

I guess “age” somehow is the determining factor for Adele.

Donald Trump and conflicts of interest

Donald Trump’s quote about the President’s exemption from conflict of interest regulations is an interesting interpretation.

    But his emphasis is wrong.

Mr. Trump says the President can’t have a conflict of interest – meaning nothing the President does is a conflict of interest.

We mere mortals say the President can’t have a conflict of interest – meaning that the President must not have a conflict of interest.

    Trump inconsistent
Donald Trump is backing down on some the most influential parts of his campaign. As president-elect most of his key issues that he intended to address and his plan to do so is beginning to take a back burner as he starts to set up his administration.

Trump strongly said he would build “impenetrable physical wall on the southern border, on day one. Mexico will pay for the wall.”

Consider running for WLV school board
Being a Board of Education member in the West Las Vegas School District should be an honor, not a privilege. The elections are coming around the corner in February and those that choose to challenge must submit their petitions by early December.
