Why are gas prices here so much higher?

Question, with the falling price of crude oil now below $37, why are pump prices not reflecting a commensurate low locally?

Local prices are well above Albuquerque and even Clayton, a traditionally higher priced area than LV. Most areas adjacent to LV are well below $2; it doesn’t make sense this one area, not so remote is following the trend of California.

    Splendoria reflects on Colorado shooting

More murders at “Murder Central,” aka Planned Parenthood, in Colorado Springs.

There’s a saying: “What goes around, comes around.” Violence begets more violence, in this instance.
    Funny how that works.

    Mil Gracias

This past Saturday, our Las Vegas letter carriers collected thousands of pounds of nonperishable food from generous members of our community. The deliveries to the Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Hall were sorted and distributed to the

organizations represented who hand out food from food pantries. Those groups include Salvation Army, Samaritan House, Victory Life Church, Comedor Food Pantry and others.

Still supports ex-Mora school chief Trujillo

I received a call from a Mora resident who said, “You wrote a letter about Charles Trujillo’s character when he got the job as superintendent, now what do you have to say?

    Poverty limits college graduation rates
Gov. Susana Martinez made an unsubstantiated claim about prompt college graduation and poverty reduction. The 9-11-15 AP report “State falling short on higher education” implied that measures to speed college completion would help to reduce poverty  levels. A simple correlation between these factors cannot prove which, if either, is a cause of the other.

However, numerous studies support the contrary view that poverty limits college graduation rates.

    Highlands president deserves an ‘F’

Sam Minner, Highlands’ new president, has brought home his first report card for the school year, and there is a large, red “F” in the integrity column. This failing — but well-deserved — grade tells us that Sam has started out at his new school by copying some of the behavioral tendencies of the five previous Highlands presidents over the last 15 years.

    Information needed on trash pickups

I would like to thank the Optic for the recent story, Oct. 4-6 edition, regarding local trash pick-up. Thank you for clarifying what the City will/will not take, and how to properly fill the containers. Nice to know that they will pick up those bundled tree trimmings! I fully understand the over-burden of excess waste. I usually deliver large trimmings to the solid waste department off of Airport Road. Thanks to the City for having that available.

Time to step up and support HU football
Homecoming took place (recently), the culmination event being HU vs FLC. Yes HU was soundly defeated but everyone should be aware that Coach Jeff Mills and his assistants were hired with little time to recruit and fill those positions that left when the previous coach left.
