Alta Vista Hospital is doing its best

It seems that most of the time you refer to Alta Vista you add “for profit.” Letters from others and quotes form others also add that comment.

Are you against the idea of a firm attempting to make a profit? From what I can determine you are hired by “for profit newspaper.”

The local hospital has attempted to recruit and keep qualified OB physicians. They do not come and if they do they do not last long.

Vegas has a serious loose-dog problem

I recently returned from Albuquerque’s Run for the Zoo 10K.  It was a great race, but when people ask how my training went, it’s a different response.

    Consolidation is long over due

It’s time to consolidate the two school districts of Las Vegas. It’s long overdue.

    Political cartoon uncalled for

The political cartoon published in the April 20 edition  was unworthy of the Optic, in my opinion.

Stating that the upcoming presidential election consists only of bad choices is cynical enough, and the illustration is even worse. A communist hammer and sickle for Bernie Sanders? Really?

    Doctors, medical services abundant

I am writing in response to Betty Maestas’ Letter to the Editor posted on April 18 regarding the need for “more doctors and medical services needed.”

First and utmost, my condolences to Ms. [Desiree] Castillo’s’ family for their loss. Secondly, Ms. Maestas is mistaken regarding the lack of medical care in Las Vegas.

    Lawmakers should be transparent

President Kennedy once stated: “The very word ‘secrecy’ is repugnant in a free and open society… We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent fact far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it.”

    Advice for mayor, city councilors

We have been very lucky to have a far wetter than normal year and a half. The city has been able to provide water without having to impose drought restrictions on customers’ use. Almost everyone should recognize that betting on the continued generosity of Mother Nature would be extraordinarily unwise. The city’s current water storage space is far too limited.

    Benavidez deserves a second chance

I don’t know Mr. (Anthony Leroy) Benavidez and so I have no dog in the fight described in the Viewpoints column, March 23.

But it seems to me that without further information about the type of felony he received, and how many years — or decades — ago, it is a mistake to ban him from the West Las Vegas school board.

Trump a bad choice for president

Donald Trump may be a multi-billionaire, commanding a huge real estate empire. He may be a leading candidate for the Republican nomination for President in 2016. He may have a daily cameo on almost every news program in the country.
But Donald Trump has absolutely no class! You might expect someone who was raised with privilege and educated in a military prep school, Fordham and Wharton to have a little polish. But if he ever had any, he lost it somewhere on the way to fortune and fame.
