  • Cowgirls third in RMAC

    Jillisa Grant’s day-three heroics helped elevate her team and drew the respect of those in attendance at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week in Golden, Colo.

    Grant, a junior from Spanish Town, Jamaica, earned Athlete of the Meet honors, and she shared Athlete of the Year kudos with Adams State College’s Indira Spence.

  • Lady Card golfers back in top 3

    Further cementing their reputation as one of the better programs in the state, the Robertson High girls’ golf team placed third in the Class A-3A state tournament held Monday and Tuesday at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

    It’s the third top-three finish for the Lady Cardinals in four seasons. Head coach Gene Gurule guided a young Robertson to a fifth-place outcome in 2010.

    Joedy Quintana led the Lady Cards’ two-day effort, tying for 12th individually.

  • NMHU rodeo ropes in regional title

    The New Mexico Highlands University women’s rodeo team brought home a Grand Canyon Regional Championship from Las Cruces’ Doña Ana County Events Center.

    Highlands placed in several events.

    “I am very proud of these athletes,” said interim head coach Curtis Jones. “With all the adversity that came there way, they kept their heads and came out ahead.”

    The team title entitles the Cowgirls to attend the College National Finals Rodeo on June 12-18 in Casper, Wyo.
