  • No extra cash for BHI employees

Employees at the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute, along with other State Department of Health workers, were expecting a little extra cash in their paychecks last Friday, as the department told them in June that it would be paying out their accrued comp time at the end of the fiscal year.

  • Road dispute has neighbors feuding

A petition by landowners to vacate a portion of San Miguel County Road C-53-D near Maes has one family crying foul.

The issue took center stage at last week’s County Commission meeting. In the end, commissioners postponed action on it, with some saying that they wanted to go out to the rural area, roughly 40 miles east of Las Vegas, and inspect the road before making a decision. The Commission plans to reconvene to make that site visit at 9 a.m. on July 30. They will begin the meeting at the Commission chambers and then drive out to see the road in question.

Tuesday, July 16 — Somebody shot a hole into the front window of the Town Police Station on Bridge Street after the station was closed for the night. Town Police magistrate Hilario Montano pointed out the hole in the window facing the street and the flattened bullet was found near the wall on the far side of the room. Apparently the person who fired the shot stood across the street near the Whitehouse Bar, or the shot might have been fired from a moving auto.
