  • Replenishing Storrie Lake - July one of wettest in decades

    If there’s any doubt in your mind that this has been one of the wettest Julys on record in Las Vegas, take a look at these figures.

    According to Brian Guyer, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, we received 4.39 inches of rain at the airport in July.

    “That’s a little over an inch above normal, which is great for this area because we’ve been below normal for such a long period,” Guyer said.

    The average precipitation during the month of July from 1981 to 2010 is 3.07 inches, he said.

  • Heritage Week kicks off today

    Get ready for a week-long party that celebrates the unique history of Las Vegas and the surrounding communities.

    Heritage Week kicks off today with Al Fresco in Plaza Park where Los Tropicales will perform. The Citizens Committee For Historic Preservation’s annual Places with a Past Historic Home and Building Tour is set for Saturday. A Glorieta Battlefield Bus Tour will take place on Sunday, and on Tuesday there will be the Blessing of the Waters. Various other events, including the San Miguel/Mora County Fair are scheduled for next weekend.

The president of Bison Airlines will be present to discuss the possibility of his airline extending service to Las Vegas, which has been without commercial airline service for 10 years.

    ALBUQUERQUE — Preston Blake says he’s a “down to earth, mature and serious man.” In an online profile, he sports a shirtless photo of himself while smiling and flexing his chiseled right arm. “I’m solid, real, in a world full of fake,” the 31-year-old describes himself.
