  • Altercation leads to stabbing

    A 19-year-old Las Vegas man was arrested Friday after he allegedly stabbed another man during an altercation at the river walk near Bridge Street.

    Jose Lucero, who resides on the 700 block of Railroad, was being held at the San Miguel County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond. Las Vegas police filed paperwork in San Miguel County Magistrate Court on Monday charging him  with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a third-degree felony.

  • Man accused of sixth DUI

    State police say a Las Vegas man is facing his sixth DUI after he almost struck a police officer over the weekend.

    Daniel M. Holguin, 69, was booked into the San Miguel County Detention Center on a felony DUI charge and four misdemeanor charges on Friday. His bond has been set at $15,000.

  • State: 57 nuke containers from Los Alamos could be threat

    Los Alamos National Laboratory packed 57 barrels of nuclear waste with a type of kitty litter believed to have caused a radiation leak at the federal government’s troubled nuclear waste dump, posing a potentially “imminent” and “substantial” threat to public health and the environment, New Mexico officials said Monday.

  • Obama to designate Organ Mountains as landmark

    After a nearly 10-year campaign by environmentalists, hunters and tourism officials to gain wilderness protection for the Organ Mountains and Desert Peaks in southern New Mexico, the White House said Monday that President Barack Obama will declare almost 500,000 acres of mountain ranges above the Chihuahan Desert a national monument this week.

    Luna Community College will again offer an enhanced college credit summer program for upcoming classified high school juniors and seniors. For several years, Luna Community College has offered the Student Academic Advancement Institute. This year, it will run from Monday, June 2 to Friday, July 25. Registration is ongoing and runs through Friday, June 6.
