  • Book examines Shakespeare in Cuba

    Highlands University

    Highlands University English professor Donna Woodford-Gormley was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities summer stipend to complete her book that explores Cuban cultural adaptations of Shakespeare.

    Woodford-Gormley is the only Shakespeare scholar conducting research in Cuba.

    Memorial Day 2014 is upon us. It is the most solemn of all of the American patriotic holidays, honoring those veterans who gave their lives so we could live in a free and open society. The day that has been set aside to remember those who died for our freedoms has, unfortunately, been relegated to little more than the three day weekend that marks the beginning of summer.

  • Baca achieves more raves in combine

    Submitted to the Optic

    Mathew Baca, 15, of Las Vegas recently competed in Coach Dave Schuman’s National Underclassmen Combine.

    The event is a football competition where high school athletes go through testing in the 40 yard dash, shuttle run, vertical jump, broad jump, and bench press. They then have specific position skills evaluations by former NFL players and college coaches.
