    ALBUQUERQUE — A New Mexico physician’s assistant who also is a medical marijuana patient says one of the state’s largest health care providers violated her rights when it fired her following a positive drug test.

  • Hearing set in campaign dispute

    SANTA FE — New Mexico’s highest court plans a hearing later this month on a lawsuit by Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gary King in a dispute over campaign contributions.

    At issue in the case before the state Supreme Court is a state law that limits individuals and political action committees to giving no more than $5,200 for a primary election and $5,200 for a general election.

    If you are curious about how recent rains have affected our local landscape, you might be interested in touring some of our local gardens. The annual Garden Tour, sponsored by the Citizens Committee for Historic Preservation, will be held Saturday. The tour is self-guided, and participants will visit the gardens of several area residents.

    The tour will include the newly renovated Rheua Pearce Park, located along the Gallinas River.

    • 41st Annual San Miguel/Mora County Fair, Friday, Aug. 8 - 8:30 a.m. Lamb show followed by goats, steers, and breeding stock, 1 p.m. scavenger hunt, 1 p.m. small animal judging, 2 p.m. horse show, 6 p.m. watermelon eating contest, and 7 p.m. goat roping. Events take place at the fairgrounds off Hot Springs Boulevard going toward Montezuma.

Over the Edge VII, a presentation by the Las Vegas Community Theatre Collective, entertained audiences with their latest capers taking pot shots (pun intended) at pharmaceutical shenanigans as well as local foibles. Capacity crowds hooted at the sometimes-not-so-hidden references to our community! Good job, folks!
