Mora Independent School Board during a Tuesday meeting increased the pay for activity bus drivers to $20 an hour, up from $15 an hour.

“There’s a shortage of bus drivers across the state,” said board chairwoman Monica Aragon. “We have a limited pool to choose from and felt we need to be more competitive.”

In other matters, the board agreed to increase the money allocated for meals for students participating in off-campus activities to $15, up from $11.

“Now with COVID, prices have increased in the restaurants and because of our rural location, our kids do travel pretty far,” Aragon said. “Sometimes that’s their meal for an extended period of time. We really want to make sure they are fed.”
