West Las Vegas Schools has committed to a COVID testing program that will give the district $75,000 and $3 for every student tested for the illness.

The New Mexico Department of Health is providing the funding.

Superintendent Christopher Gutierrez said the money will be used for COVID purposes, depending on the needs at the time.

“Whether paying for people to do contract tracing, tests or masks,” Gutierrez said.

The district hired three employees to do COVID testing and contract tracing, and has been testing students and staff since summer.
