New Mexico State Police is continuing its investigation into the Sept. 12 murder of a Mora man.

“At this point, the homicide investigation is still active,” police spokesman Ray Wilson said Wednesday. “No charges have been filed.”

John Serna, 66, was found shot to death near a home on County Road A042, police reported. During the initial investigation, police determined that Serna and a man police have not publicly identified had gotten into “an altercation” that resulted in Serna being shot to death.

Wilson noted that once the investigation has been completed, police will present the case to the Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office for review and a determination of any charge.
