COVID-19

Starting immediately, Highlands University is offering free testing for COVID-19 for the campus and community.

Rapid Polymerase Chain Reaction, or PCR, tests will be available at Melody Park. The tests detect genetic material in the virus.

Testing will be available at this site Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Thursdays 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. To check hours and schedule an appointment, enter a zip code at www.curative.com and select from available times.

Dean of Students Kim Blea said the testing site will be open to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Tests will be self-administered, but volunteers will be available to provide instruction.

“We want to ensure that we are complementing the testing availability that is offered in the community by providing ease of access for our campus community and the wider community as well,” said Blea.

Testing is already available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Abe Montoya Recreation Center, so Highlands’ new site will provide testing options on alternating days. Testing is also available at El Centro and the VA Clinic and through the mail with Vault Health.

“This is a really great thing for our campus community,” said Blea. “Whether you need a test for surveillance, because you’re symptomatic, because you’re a close contact, and for many other reasons.”
