A prescribed burn in the Las Dispensas area of the Santa Fe National Forest was expected to begin as early as Monday.

The decision to proceed depended on resource availability, fuel moisture levels, air quality, ventilation and weather.

The 1,200-acre Las Dispensas treatment area is part of a larger project to protect the Gallinas Watershed, a primary water source for the City of Las Vegas. Smoke from the Las Dispensas burn may be visible from Gallinas, El Porvenir, San Pablo, Mineral Hill, San Geronimo, Gascon, Pendaries, Las Vegas and along the Interstate 25 corridor.
