The Starbucks at 1412 6th St., Las Vegas, is scheduled to open on Nov. 12.

The Starbucks at 1412 6th St. is set to open on Nov. 12, according to a company spokeswoman.

The store expects to employ 25 part- and full-time workers. Positions include baristas, shift supervisors and shift managers.

The Starbucks was built in a vacant lot that’s primarily been used for parking, first for the former Russell’s grocery store and now for Lowe’s at 605 Mills Ave., said Benjamin Maynes, building code supervisor for the City of Las Vegas.

The estimated cost of construction is $1.5 million, Maynes said.

The coffee giant chose Las Vegas because it’s “always looking for great locations to better meet the needs of our customers,” the company spokeswoman said.

The 50-year-old company was founded in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market. The name was inspired by the classic tale, “Moby-Dick,” evoking the seafaring tradition of the early coffee traders.

Starbucks has 39,938 stores and is the largest coffeehouse in the world; 15,000 of those stores are in the United States and 76 are in New Mexico, according to the company website.

Employees will receive competitive pay and tips, and can qualify for vacation and sick time, college tuition through Arizona State University, a free Spotify subscription, 401K and stock grants, and medical, vision, dental and life insurance, according to the company website.

Training will take place in Santa Fe.
