  • Samuel Thomas 'Tom' Ansley

    Samuel Thomas “Tom” Ansley, 98, a longtime Mora County and former Las Vegas resident, died Thursday, Dec. 20, at his home in Santa Fe with his wife and youngest daughter at his side.

    A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church in Mora, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas, N.M.

  • Dion J. Hoogerhuis

    Dion J. Hoogerhuis, age 20, was born on March 27, 1987 in Chula Vista, Calif. and was raised in Yokosuka, Japan, passed away on Dec. 25, 2007 after battling an extended illness.

    He attended West Las Vegas High School during his Junior year, 2003-2004, before returning to Yokosuka, Japan to graduate from Nile C. Kinnick High School in 2005.

    He was a second year student at UNM in Albuquerque.

  • John E. Sandoval

    John E. Sandoval, 79, a life long resident of Las Vegas, passed away at Alta Vista Regional Hospital on Tuesday following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose A. and Rosalia Martinez Sandoval and two brothers: Joe Robert and George Sandoval.

  • Fidel Saiz

    Fidel Saiz was born in Tecolotito, N.M., to Miguel Saiz and Genoveva Madrid on Dec. 11, 1926. Fidel was the youngest of four children.

    On June 1, 1953, Fidel found the love of his life, Conrada Tenorio, in his hometown of Tecolotito, N.M. He married Conrada and they began life’s journey together.

    In his younger years, Fidel was a hard working man making a living in the fields of Colorado. He would often glance over to the Rocky Mountains and wonder what was on the other side.

  • Ramon J. Benavidez

    Ramon J. Benavidez, 69, a lifetime resident of Montezuma, N.M. passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 at his home.

    He was born in Montezuma, N.M. on May 1, 1938 to the late Floripa M. Benavidez.

    He was united in marriage on January 7, 1961 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, N.M. to Dora Francisca Nunez.

    He was employed as a truck driver for the Lester Construction.

    A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church and also a Penitente.

  • Mary F. Valdez

    The mass of resurrection for Mary F. Valdez, 87, a resident of Watrous, N.M., was celebrated this morning at 11 at the Sacred Heart Church in Watrous with Father Steven Imbarrato as celebrant. Interment of the cremains will take place at a later date.

  • Mary F. Valdez

    Mary F. Valdez, age 87, a resident of Watrous, N.M,. passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2007 at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital following a sudden illness.

    Mary was born in Gascon, N.M., on June 4, 1920, to the late Gregorio and Andrellita Garcia.

    She was united in marriage to Jose Benito Valdez on Nov. 8, 1937.

    She worked as housekeeper and cook at the Valmora Sanitarium for over 40 years, from where she retired. She loved to make quilts and baby blankets, and tend to her flower garden. She also enjoyed fishing and camping.

  • Alexander Anthony Rimbert

    Alexander Anthony Rimbert, age 67, was born Jan. 1, 1940 in Las Vegas, N.M. A long-time resident of Albuquerque, Alexander passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his son, Alexander Jr., and he is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Clara E.
