Chantae “Tae” Bustamante, a West Las Vegas High School junior, was one of four varsity cheerleaders from New Mexico selected to sing the National Anthem at this year’s State Spirit Competition held at the Pit on the University of New Mexico campus recently.

Bustamante, 16, was the featured vocalist for the commencement of Session 3 of this year’s competition.

The daughter of Paul and Becky Bustamante of Villanueva, Bustamante has a brother, Paul Anthony, and a sister, Savannah. She is the granddaughter of Arsenio Gallegos, Josie Martinez, Placido Bustamante, and Maria Bustamante.

An audition CD recording of Bustamante was submitted by WLVHS cheer coach Krystle King and was selected as a winner by the Spirit Management Team of the New Mexico Activities Association. Miss Bustamante enjoys playing the flute, violin, and mariachi music.

A member of the WLVHS Honors Choir, Bustamante studies vocal performance under the direction of Arnell David Arellanes, WLVHS instructor.
