Rep. Salazar receives award for dedication to public education

On Thursday, July 25, Representative Tomás Salazar was recognized for his service to public education and received the Earl Nunn Memorial Award. 

“Receiving this award is an honor,” Salazar said in a press release. “I believe that improving public education is my call to service, and I will continue to champion legislation that strengthens public education and improves the lives of our students and communities across the state.”

The award is the highest-level award given by the New Mexico Coalition for Educational Leaders, given to those like Salazar who have exemplified excellent leadership in public education policy. 

Salazar has served District 70 since 2013. He attended New Mexico Highlands University for his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, got his PhD at University of New Mexico. His professional experience is in education and has kept public education at the heart of his service and campaigns. He has served on the education committee in several legislative sessions and sponsored many bills relating to public education.
