Story time at the Carnegie Public Library has begun, taking place at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The Feb. 6 book is “Mr. and Mrs. Green.” Children will also make a standing alligator craft. For information, call 505-426-3304, ext. 1911.

Thursday, Feb. 7

The Highlands University Foundation Office is hosting “Love and War” — a locally made chocolate dessert tasting competition and fundraiser — will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. The desserts featured in the competition showcase will be from Dick’s Restaurant, The Range Café, Pookie’s Bakery and Café, The Skillet Restaurant, Sugarbomb Bake Shoppe, Ulibarri Farms Candy Shoppe, and Sodexo, the Highlands food service. Tickets are $10 and are available through the Highlands Foundation Office or by calling 505-454-3248 or by emailing lylamaestas@nmhu.edu. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

Thursday, Feb. 7

The monthly board meeting of the El Creston Mutual Domestic Water Consumers Association will be held at 7 p.m. at 49 Mira Sol, Ojitos Frios Ranches Subdivision.  The public is welcome to attend.

Saturday, Feb. 9

The all-ages 10th Annual Valentine Dance and membership meeting of the Friends of the City of Las Vegas Museum and Rough Rider Collection will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the El Fidel Hotel Ballroom. Local bands Contrafact and Fireball are scheduled.
