Theology on Tap presents “Lent: Almsgiving and Fasting” with Father John Trambley at 6:30 p.m. in the Plaza Hotel Ballroom on the Las Vegas Plaza. This is the latest lecture given by spiritual leaders and religious academics. These all-ages monthly events are free and open to the public. The Vietnam Veterans of America 1063 is offering several $500 scholarships to eligible high school seniors graduating in May 2019 — ones who must be attending college or trade school in the fall of 2019 and are graduating from Mora, Pecos, Robertson, Wagon Mound or West Las Vegas high schools. Artists Remembered, an exhibit featuring formerly well-known Las Vegas area Artists is open through May 222 at Gallery 140, the Las Vegas Arts Council’s space at 140 Bridge Street. The exhibit is open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. 


An adult community chorus meet Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Eighth St. and National Avenue, Las Vegas. The chorus is for all who love to sing and give back to our community. Call Amy at 505-404-1615 or simply show up.


The American Association of Retired Persons Tax Aide Foundation is looking for volunteers and tax preparers to enter tax returns in the Las Vegas area beginning Feb. 11. Furloughed federal employees and others affected by the federal government shutdown can call the Animal Welfare Coalition Pet Center to schedule dogs or cats for a free spaying or neutering, as well as free rabies and other shots and a microchip for identifying their pet if lost. The Tri-County Farmers’ Market will be open each Saturday at Plaza Drug on the Las Vegas Plaza from 8 a.m. to noon, throughout the winter and early-spring months.

Morphy Lake State Park, in southwestern Mora County, is closed until further notice due to ongoing construction and other improvements. Visitors are asked not to go around closed gates and avoid the lake and the park entirely until work has been completed.
