Palabras Pintorescas: Tapaderos: Those funny-looking stirrup covers

-A A +A
By Editha Bartley

I was surprised to see the host of Antiques Roadshow, Mark Wahlberg, introduce a recent segment by riding a horse, no less. He also visited a museum where valuable old Mexican saddles were on exhibit.

It is easy for me to think that everybody knows how and why a saddle works the way it does. It is built to protect both the horse and the rider and when used properly can save a lot of problems, from the saddle sores on the horses back to a real wreck when a cinch breaks and the riders and saddle land on the ground.
