Two men were recently arrested on drug possession and other charges after the truck they were in struck a parked vehicle and was pursued through Las Vegas, police said in court documents.

According to Las Vegas Police, Johnny Joe Gallegos, 37, and Ruben Quintana, 23, were in a brown Chevy pickup that struck a parked vehicle at about 7:45 a.m. on Feb. 8. Officers initiated a pursuit and eventually took Gallegos, who was driving, and Quintana into custody.

The initial collision, with a parked vehicle, happened near the intersection of 12th Street and Sulzbacher Avenue. The truck nearly struck an officer's vehicle and caused at least one other vehicle to swerve out of its way as it headed the wrong way down the one-way streets of 11th and then Baca Avenue at a high rate of speed.

Gallegos then went north on Ninth Street, past the Wilson Complex, and the pursuit was suspended as Gallegos entered Mills Avenue by running a stop sign. The truck was smoking and moving slower as it turned north on Cinder Road, and Gallegos lost control of the truck in the 1600 block. He and Quintana were both captured on foot.

Gallegos was initially charged with aggravated fleeing resisting or evading, driving while license revoked (for DWI), failure to display a current license plate, failure to stop upon striking an unattended vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to stop or yield.  He apparently was not intoxicated, nor did he possess any weapons or contraband.

Gallegos, who had at least one other case pending, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will be bound over to District Court.

Quintana was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia for having glass pipes with him. He was arrested, and about 10 days later, was arrested on drug-possession, battery and shoplifting charges after an incident at Big R. He is due in court March 19.
