-A A +A

Such a shame

I was very disappointed to learn that the annual Fiesta Run will not take place this year as part of the Fiestas celebration. At a time when 2/3 of the country is either obese or overweight, when diabetes and heart disease are running rampant, and when so called “e-sports” (video games) are entering our educational institutions, this is no time to stop having such a positive, healthy event. Our kids need to see that kind of modeling and to participate in and help celebrate a healthy, active lifestyle.

I have been told that this is a one-off, and that the Community First Bank will sponsor the run next year. I certainly hope so. In the meantime, there is a group of us stubborn types who are going to do the 10K anyway. No t-shirts, no medals, no time-keeper, no police escort etc. Just run for fun and take responsibility for yourself. We’ll start at 7 a.m. on July 7 at the World College and run to the Plaza. You are welcome to join us if you like.
