Hoops: Mora wins opener

Getting solid play from their bigs, the Mora Rangers prevailed against Cuba 73-68 in a close contest Friday as part of the Brian Gallegos Memorial Shootout hosted by West Las Vegas.

It was a successful debut for Mora coach Carlos Arellano.

Later Friday, West Las Vegas' Lady Dons doubled up Wingate 72-36, with Briana Marquez leading the double-digit scorers.

West's boys also won their home debut, routing Wingate 70-51 in the nightcap. The Dons, playing just their third game under new head coach Clyde Sanchez, shot well from distance and led by as much as 36.
