Dons swing past Santa Fe Prep

The West Las Vegas Dons crushed the Santa Fe Prep Blue Griffins on Thursday, winning 22–1.

The Dons scored seven runs in the first, eight in the second, five in the third and two in the fourth. The Blue Griffins scored their only run of the game in the fourth.

Sophomore Elijah Alarcon and senior Estevan Gonzales had four runs each while sophomore Josiah Baca had three. Seniors Antonio Bustamante, Jaeden Perea and Marcos Solano and sophomore Omar Gallardo each scored twice and freshman Roy Pacheco Jr., sophomore Pablo Leyba and senior James Archuleta each crossed home plate once.

The hits just kept coming for West as they had 20 runs batted in with 46 plate appearances, 39 at bats and 22 hits.

Baca and Leyba had three RBI’s each while Alarcon, Bustamante, Gallardo, Jaeden Perea and Solano each had two. Archuleta, Gonzales, Pacheco Jr. and sophomores Joaquin Perea and Andres Ulibarri each brought home one runner.

Gonzales, Leyba and Joaquin Perea hit a double while Baca, Gallardo and Solano had a triple. Jaeden Perea hit a sacrifice bunt.

The Dons stole eight bases as Bustamante and Baca had two each. Alarcon, Gonzales, Leyba and Solano each stole once.

Gallardo was on the mound for three innings with one hit and a base on balls and nine strikeouts. The Blue Griffins scored their only run when Alarcon pitched for one inning with two bases on balls and strikeouts. Pacheco Jr. had one strikeout during his inning of pitching.

West will play the Raton Tigers at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
