Christmas Opera in Las Vegas

The short opera "Amahl and the NightVisitors" by Gian Carlo Menotti will be presented in Ilfeld Auditorium on Saturday, December 14, at 7 p.m. by a combined cast of singers from Las Vegas and Los Alamos.

This popular Christmas presentation was first performed by NBC Television Theater on Christmas Eve 1951. It was played annually at Christmas on NBC throughout the 1950s and1960s. This is an opera that's very appropriate for children and Menotti wrote it based on his childhood memories.  The opera is approximately 45 minutes long.

Las Vegas participants will include Andre Garcia-Nuthmann of the NMHU music faculty as Kaspar (one of the three kings) and members of the NMHU Concert Choir and Madrigal Choir as the shepherds.

The Opera will also be performed by the same cast at the Unitarian church in Los Alamos on Friday, December 20.
