Las Vegas City Schools Superintendent Sheryl McNellis-Martinez has been placed on paid administrative leave for the remainder of her contract, and in a near unanimous vote, the school board decided Thursday evening to continue with Lydia Flores as interim superintendent.

Mcnellis-Martinez has been on leave from the district since mid-January.

At the Thursday evening school board meeting, board President Gloria Lovato Pacheco announced that McNellis-Martinez had declined to pursue a contract with the district.

Lovato Pacheco then made a motion to place McNellis-Martinez on paid administrative leave until the end of her contract, and the board approved the motion unanimously. The contract expires at the end of this school year.

Shortly after that motion was approved, the board voted on whether to continue with Flores, the district’s bilingual and federal programs director, as interim superintendent. That motion also passed, with only board member Luis Ortiz voting against it.
