Vatos: National champs!

As founding faculty adviser and longtime spokesman Dick Greene would say, speed never has a bad day.

The New Mexico Highlands University rugby club used that attribute well and achieved the pinnacle of success in the small college ranks this past weekend, beating New England College 22-19 to win the national championship in sevens rugby.

In doing so, the Vatos avenged last season’s defeat to New England in the national sevens final. That had been the club’s deepest postseason run in its 23-year history.
