FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga.  — Roddy White stripped off his pads after practicing for nearly 2 1/2 hours on a balmy Georgia morning, knowing he wouldn’t have to go through that again.

Not on this day, at least.

Two-a-days have been tossed aside, joining leather helmets and the Wing-T as NFL relics.

    Good riddance.

No wonder White was wearing such a big smile as lunchtime approached.

  • Fall schedules set for area teams

As the preseason officially begins Monday for Las Vegas-area high school cross country, soccer and volleyball teams, the fall sports schedules at each school have been finalized.

Monday is the first allowable day of full, organized practice for all fall prep sports except football, which began one week earlier. The New Mexico High School Activities Association sets the schedule for programs statewide.

  • From Vegas to Puerto Rico to...

Las Vegan Nicholas Aragon is taking his talents to south Oklahoma.
Aragon, who graduated from West Las Vegas in May after starring in baseball for both WLV and Robertson, is attending Oklahoma Panhandle State University this fall and playing for the Aggie baseball team.

  • Aragon shines in Florida camp

Hopefully Robertson senior Luke Aragon didn’t blink in late July.
If he did, he likely missed what turned out to be an abbreviated summer vacation.
Aragon spent seven weeks in Bradenton, Fl., in the IMG Sports Academy’s wood bat league, playing alongside some of the better young baseball talent from across the country.
And this week, just days after returning from Florida, Aragon was to join the Robertson football team as it begins the preseason gauntlet of training.
