  • Booth named for Bernie Allingham

The late, great Bernie Allingham was recognized at the most recent regular meeting of the Las Vegas City School Board of Education.

“Throughout the years Bernie worked with KFUN bringing local sports broadcast to people’s homes. Not only did he call the play-by-play, he also interviewed the kids and highlighted their academic and athletic achievements,” Montaño said.

Montaño said Allingham broadcast all local sports, including Highlands, Robertson and West Las Vegas games.

Carr, who led NMHU with a single-season high 25 home runs, has already been honored as a Daktronics All-American for his exploits this past season.

NMHU finished 41-13 and ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division II Central Region.

  • Bradley-bound

Keeping alive a family tradition while making a little history all his own, Kevin Keiner of Las Vegas will play tennis and attend school at Bradley, an NCAA Division I university in Peoria, Ill.

This past weekend was busy for Keiner, who not only attended his graduation ceremony at Robertson High, he also signed a national letter of intent making official his college choice.

Oh yeah. He also made time for an impromptu game with sister Jennifer, now an assistant tennis coach at Cincinnati, who returned to Las Vegas to celebrate both major moments with her kid brother.

With the “clink” sound of aluminum bats colliding with the hide of softballs, not to mention the occasional off-color humor and “carilla” from the field, dugouts and stands, it sounds like summer is here in the Meadow City.
