  • Red Sox, Lady Devils back in...

Avoiding the short end of the 10-run rule that has claimed so many other opponents of the Red Sox this season, the Mets put up a good fight Wednesday night in Las Vegas Little League Majors Division semifinal action at Keyes Park.

The top-seeded Red Sox won 9-4, advancing to Saturday morning’s championship game. They’ll play the winner of a Friday evening semifinal between the Cardinals and Yankees.

Richard Armijo, D.J. Abreu and Jeremy Fernandez scored in each of the first two innings Wednesday to lead the Sox to a 9-0 advantage.

  • Several locals brave triathlon

Several Las Vegans and others with strong ties to the area were among the competitors in this past weekend’s Storrie Lake Triathlon.

The event, which returned after a four-year absence, began with a swim of nearly 1 mile in the lake, followed by a 24-mile cycling segment to Sapello and back and then a 6-mile run from the lake through the Porkchop Hill area.

Clay Moseley of Los Alamos was the overall winner, finishing in 2 hours, 14 minutes, 24 seconds.
