    Friday the 13th could only be unlucky for one team at Isotopes Park, and fortunately for the Albuquerque Isotopes (31-37), they were the lucky ones, handing New Orleans (36-32) a 5-4 defeat.

  • Vegas cools Fuego 4-3

    For just the second time this season, a Las Vegas Train Robbers home crowd approached three digits.

    And those home fans were in for a treat — a stirring 4-3 comeback for the Train Robbers against the Pecos League Northern Division-leading Santa Fe Fuego on Wednesday.

    Santa Fe took the first lead of the evening on David Brandt’s RBI single in the top of the second and made it 2-0 when Nick Billinger singled to score Brandt in the fifth.

    The Fuego’s pitching held the Robbers to two hits and a walk through the first six innings.

  • World Cup under way in Brazil

    What has been called one of the deepest and most talented fields in history is in Brazil for the 2014 men’s World Cup.

    The host team kicked off the monthlong tournament on Thursday against Croatia; that was the lone match of opening day.

    But as pool play continues, the spotlight will be shared. In arguably the marquee matchup of the pool play round, 2010 champion Spain will take on that year’s runner-up, the Netherlands, at 1 p.m. Mountain time Friday.

  • Rangers stay alive in finals

    NEW YORK — The champagne the Los Angeles Kings had ready for a coronation stayed in boxes. The New York Rangers suddenly have some life in the Stanley Cup finals.

    Henrik Lundqvist made 40 saves and had the Madison Square Garden crowd chanting his name in the Rangers’ 2-1 victory in Game 4 that kept the Los Angeles Kings from a sweep on Wednesday night.

    Charette Lakes: Trout fishing was good using Power Bait. Several people reported catching limits. A few trout were also caught by anglers using spinners.
