    After having made progressively deeper runs into the postseason over the last several years, the West Las Vegas softball team looks to have a bright future.

    But the Lady Dons will undoubtedly miss the seniors they’ll lose to graduation this offseason.

  • Invaders mystify LV

    The Roswell Invaders recorded their fourth win in as many nights over the visiting Las Vegas Train Robbers on Friday for the opening week of Pecos League baseball. The series was to wrap late Saturday before the fledgling Train Robbers team goes north for road series at Trinidad and Raton.

    A 13-run second inning by Roswell fueled a 16-4 rout Friday at Roswell’s Joe Bauman Park.

    Will Walsh hit a solo home run in the third inning to highlight the Robbers’ effort. Chris Wilson went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI.

  • Little League - May 17, 2013

    In another display of interleague cooperation this season, Las Vegas Little League and La Plaza Little League will have several interleague softball games on the schedule.
    The first of the games came Wednesday night at Rodriguez Park, and more are planned May 22 and 29 and June 3 and 5.

  • Double trouble - Mora’s Chavez...

    MORA — When New Mexico Highlands University cross country coach Bob DeVries embarked on a mission to bring Mora standout Alonzo Chavez to the fold, he had help from probably the best recruiter available — Alonzo’s older brother Henrique.

    Henrique Chavez, himself a former state champion distance runner for the Mora Rangers, will be a senior at NMHU this coming fall. He’s emerged over the last couple years as a leader on the Highlands men’s team.

  • NMHU track on honor roll

    Four New Mexico Highlands University women’s track and field team members have earned recognition on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s all-academic teams.

  • Robbers debut in Roswell

    Las Vegas Train Robbers baseball began its inaugural season with an 8-2 loss Tuesday night in Roswell.
    The Invaders broke a short-lived 2-2 deadlock with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and added an insurance score in the seventh.
    Las Vegas starting pitcher Edison Alvarez was solid enough, going five and one-third innings and striking out six. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits and a walk.
