Another esteemed member of the New Mexico Highlands University coaching fraternity has died.
Fred Bleil, who was head coach of the NMHU football program when it won its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship in 1981, died Monday in Houston.
A native of Kingsley, Iowa, Bleil had lived in San Marcos, Texas, at the time of his death. He was 62.
Bleil took over the Cowboys football program in 1979 and in his third year at the helm he led the ‘Pokes to a 7-3 record and the RMAC title.
