    New Mexico Highlands baseball player Javier Ledford was recently honored with selection to the 2013 Horizon Air Summer Baseball All-Series Second Team.  The Cowboys’ first baseman played with the Marysville Gold Sox over the summer, starting 41 of the 43 games he participated in.

  • Cowgirl spikers 12th in RMAC poll

    New Mexico Highlands University’s volleyball team is picked to finish tied for 12th out of 14 schools in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference this fall, according to a preseason coaches’ poll conducted by the league and released Monday afternoon.

    The Cowgirls are entering their second season under head coach Bryan Crawford. In 2012, they had a solid start but struggled in RMAC play, finishing 6-23 overall and 2-17 in the league — last in the RMAC West Division.

    OKLAHOMA CITY — Bobby Doran allowed one earned run through seven innings and the Oklahoma City RedHawks extended their franchise-record winning streak at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark to 16 games on Monday night, scoring six runs in the first inning en route to a 6-2 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes.

  • City league tourneys under way

    A 12-0 record in the regular season has the Hackers again regular-season champs in the Las Vegas city softball league, men’s division.

    It’s a familiar position for the team, which looks to extend its run of division titles beginning tonight (Wednesday) with an opening-round playoff game against either the Vegas Boyz or the Bombers, depending on who won an eight-nine game late Monday.
