  • Mora track squads 2nd in NRG meet

    This past Saturday, the Mora boys and girls track teams finished second  at the Northern Rio Grande Invitational. The meet is an annual event that features eight of the top Class 2A teams in northern New Mexico. This year’s event was held in Dulce.

    The Rangers narrowly missed first place totaling 85.5 points behind Dulce, first with 94 points.

    New Mexico Highlands women’s basketball coach Tiffany Darling has released her dates for her 2012 Cowgirl Basketball Camps.

    The 2012 Cowgirl Basketball Camps will encompass five different camps: Shooting Camp, Youth Camp, Intermediate Camp, Skills Academy and a Team Camp.

    A trip to the desert led to some hot performances for the New Mexico Highlands University women’s track and field squad over the weekend.

    The Cowgirls — ranked seventh in the nation — returned home from the Glendale (Ariz.) Last Gasp Invite with nine first-place finishes in the 13 events in which they competed on Friday, April 20.

    After the weekend’s four-game split with visiting Regis, the New Mexico Highlands baseball team fell four games behind first-place Colorado Mesa in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball standings.

    The Cowboys (29-12 overall, 22-10 RMAC) remain the top team in the RMAC Plains Division. They remain tied for second overall with Colorado State-Pueblo, which also lost Sunday.

  • Highlands closes year with wins

    Highlands’ softball team swept host Sunday’s twinbill at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo., earning a series split and punctuating a much-improved season on a winning streak.  

    The Cowgirls finished 26-28 overall and 18-22 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

    Highlands pounded out 18 hits and took advantage of four Grizzly errors in winning Sunday’s first game 16-7. Then the Cowgirls clamped down on defense to prevail 6-1.

  • Isotopes’ Castellanos honored by...

    Albuquerque Isotopes second baseman Alex Castellanos has been named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for games beginning on April 16 and continuing through April 22 after a torrid week that saw him bat .440.

    The infielder is the first Isotopes player to earn the PCL's weekly accolade in 2012.
