  • RHS youth soccer camp Aug. 6-8

    The Robertson High School Lady Cardinals will be conducting their annual youth soccer camp on Aug. 6-8.
    The camp will be for kids ages 4-12. Cost will be $30 for campers who attend from 8 a.m. to noon, or $20 for those campers who stay from 8 to 10 a.m. (recommended for ages 4-5). The camp will be held at the Robertson soccer field off Mills Avenue. Registration will take place right before the first session, beginning at 7:45 a.m. on Aug. 6.

    A roundup of results and highlights from Las Vegas youth baseball and softball teams’ runs in recent tournaments:

    Las Vegas Little League 10-11 All-Stars lost Tuesday night to Altamont, 12-10, in Clovis.
    The Vegas boys finished fourth in the state bracket with a 2-2 record.
    The team had one of the highlights of the tournament the previous evening, going extra innings to defeat Albuquerque Westgate 9-8. Vegas’ previous win came in the first round, a 15-5 triumph over Española Valley.

  • Robbers lose finale

    Kevin Camacho scattered nine hits and four runs —none earned — over nine innings Wednesday night, leading the Santa Fe Fuego to an 11-4 verdict against the Las Vegas Train Robbers in the regular-season finale at Fort Marcy Park.

    The Fuego (36-31) was looking to keep its playoff hopes alive and did its part, sweeping the Train Robbers. Santa Fe won 6-5 Tuesday at Rodriguez Park.

    FISHING REPORT, July 23  
    Charette Lakes: Due to low water levels only small boats are being launched here. Trout fishing was fair using Power Bait, worms and Pistol Petes.
    Cimarron River: Water flow near Cimarron on Monday was 10 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using brassies, yellow sallies, salmon eggs and worms. Fishing at the Gravel Pit Lakes was slow to fair using salmon eggs and Power Bait.   

  • Speed is focus of camp at NMHU

    New Mexico Highlands University’s women’s track and field program will host the NMHU Speed Camp beginning 8:30 a.m. Monday at the NMHU track at Perkins Stadium.

    The Camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday.

    “All ages and abilities are welcome,” said NMHU head coach Bob DeVries. “Learn how to run and react faster for any sport.

  • Youth soccer sign-up ongoing

    Las Vegas Youth Soccer League is conducting in-person and online registration for the fall 2013 season. Registration deadline is Saturday, Aug. 10.
    After the deadline, players who register may be placed on a waiting list.
    The league is open to young soccer players age 4 through 14 and includes multiple age divisions.
    Cost is $51.40 per child and includes jersey, shorts and player fees. Players are also required to provide their own shinguards and cleats.
    Online registration is available via the league website, www.lasvegasyouthsoccer.org.

  • ‘Topes to don pink

    Albuquerque Isotopes

    The Albuquerque Isotopes will hold their first Breast Cancer Awareness homestand in the club’s history starting this Friday.

    In support of the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, the Isotopes will wear special pink jerseys each game of the series. Fans are encouraged to join their Isotopes in wearing pink to the games as well to support the cause.
