  • Close calls in Nebraska

A late turnover by Chadron State helped the Highlands Cowboys hang on to an 85-82 squeaker Friday night in Chadron, Neb.

Mannie Cass and Stargell Love both posted double-doubles for Highlands. Cass dropped 15 points on the Eagles to go with a team-best 10 rebounds. Love had a full stat line, tallying a game-high 18 points and 10 assists, plus five boards and three assists.

  • Nailbiter! Robertson girls edge...

Eleven lead changes. Three ties. One wild momentum swing in the first half, and an even wilder one in the second.

Sunday may have belonged to Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, but Friday night was all about Chantel Sena and Gerty Herrera. Or Brianna Pacheco and Abbey Bradley. Or Carmelita Padilla and Gigi Garcia.

  • Lady Dons end Mora streak

Mora’s opponents have had little answer for the Rangerettes’ overall team balance on the basketball court this winter.

But this week at Montoya Gym, Deanna Bustos and her teammates from West Las Vegas gave them a case of the Mondays.

West ended Mora’s 11-game unbeaten streak, 45-29. Bustos put together one of her better recent games in scoring a game-high 19 points.

It’s the second year in a row that WLV is responsible for ending an undefeated start by Mora.
