  • Fabian Trujillo Run ready for a...

The inaugural Fabian Trujillo Memorial Run and Walk drew dozens of participants and roughly as many spectators to the Gene Torres Golf Course last summer.
This year organizers are hoping to match or eclipse 2012’s promising start as they pay tribute to the longtime teacher and coach, who died in a 2011 car accident.
This year’s Fabian Trujillo Memorial will take place Saturday, June 15, at the golf course. Early registration will be available locally via Dinah Maynes, and sign-up will be available on the morning of the run.

  • Isotopes tune out Sounds

Three unanswered runs in the top of the ninth broke a 4-4 tie for a 7-4 Albuquerque victory Monday at Nashville, and the visiting Isotopes (26-25)clinched a series win over the struggling Sounds (14-35).
Second baseman Alfredo Amezaga drove in the game-winning run, plus two more for insurance, with a double to left field off Nashville reliever Travis Webb.
Amezaga was tagged out trying to stretch the double into a triple, but it was just the second out of the frame, and the damage had been done.

Three-on-three basketball has long been one of New Mexico’s favorite summertime diversions. With events like Hoop-It-Up dotting the schedule, hoopsters of varying ages and ability levels have typically had more venues than the playground courts to ply their trade.

Now, the New Mexico Youth Foundation and Alliance is serving up a new twist on three-on-three hoops in the form of benefit tournament using the rules of “Hiphop Basketball.”
