  • Cowboys rally past Grizzlies

Tyler Hayes batted a perfect 5 for 5, including a home run and a double, to lead New Mexico Highlands in a nailbiter of an 11-10 win over upstart Adams State Sunday in Alamosa, Colo.

Highlands won three of four over the Grizzlies, improving to 24-18 overall and 20-12 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. ASU is 10-31, 8-21 in its first season back after a long hiatus from baseball.

  • Meadow City motion

Buoyed by several commanding individual efforts, the Robertson girls’ track and field squad earned a decisive team championship in Monday’s Meadow City Invitational.

Meanwhile, the resurgent West Las Vegas teams captured runner-up trophies in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions, and Cardinal coaches gave a thumbs up to the RHS boys’ squad — a lineup thinned by ineligibility cuts earlier this season — for placing a strong fourth.

  • Slam city - Tafoya hits three...

How do you top two home runs in a single game?

By crushing a third homer for a walk-off grand slam to bring an early end to a 12-0 shutout.

Robertson senior Ryan Tafoya did just that on Saturday, helping the Cardinals (16-6, 8-0) sweep Pojoaque Valley at Whorton Field.

  • Highlands takes two vs. Grizzlies

After two vastly different looking baseball games, New Mexico Highlands and host Adams State had a split on Saturday in Alamosa, Colo.

A two-run homer by Adams State’s Drew Wells boosted the Grizzlies to a 3-2 squeaker in game one.

Wells’ shot came in the top of the sixth, wiping away a 2-1 Cowboy lead, and Highlands was unable to answer in the top of the seventh. Tanner Wiemers (3-3) took the win after successfully denying NMHU.
