  • Tuesday, May 10, 1966 — The Annual Junior High School Talent Show, at the Patio Gym, directed by Mrs. Sam Goodman, featured a number of winners. They include: Teddy Montgomery and Jerry Babbitt, original duets; Louis Plagge, Claude Leger, David Cook, Joe Strubbar and Billy Bothwell, in a pantomime; Martha McWilliams, piano solo, “The Swan”; David Trumbull, David Conklin and Charles Pace, rock and roll combo; Don Guerin, David Conklin, Scott Gensemer and Mike Edwards, drama; Beverly Sanchez and Kathy Fisher, Spanish dances.

  • Friday, May 6, 1966 — Fifteen tracksters from Robertson High School and West Las Vegas qualified for District 2A championships over the weekend. They are: Cardinals — David Montoya, Mike Craig, Danny Tapia, Bill Leslie, Eloy Garcia, Abelino Montoya, David Montoya, Cary Guerin, Mike Michalski and Billy Mitchell. Dons — Dickie Roybal, Danny Herrera, Frank Sanchez and Sal Esquibel and Wilfred Garduño.

    Highlands University

    The Highlands University Department of Music presents its Original Music Concert  at 7 p.m. today (Friday) in the Student Union Ballroom, 800 National Ave.

    The concert features original works written and produced by Highlands University music students, many of whom are in the Music Technology Program. The musical styles include pop, rock, bluegrass, heavy metal, hip-hop and gospel.

  • Tuesday, May 3, 1965 — San Miguel County voters early today were following the expected pattern of a light vote in the primary election. There appeared to be no problems of major concern. However,  Asst. Dist. Atty. E.R. Cooper protested to State Police that officers were not to stand on guard within polling places where voters were casting ballots. Cooper said the officers may stand guard outside the polls.

  • Friday, April 29, 1966 — Robert A. Phillips, stationed at DaNang, Viet Nam, has been promoted to lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy. He is a native Las Vegas, a graduate of Robertson High School, a career naval officer and a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Phillips, Los Alamogordos Road.

    Highlands University presents the first Town and Gown Photography Show through May 27 in Kennedy Alumni Hall at 905 University Ave.

    The exhibit features the work of the university’s Media Arts and Technology Department students and faculty as well as the Meadow City Camera Club.
