  • Tuesday, April 19, 1966 — Gilbert Gonzales, 20, has qualified to attend the U..S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., as a midshipman. Gonzales will report to the Academy in June to commence his Naval career. Gonzales is a 1965 graduate of Robertson High School. While there he participated in many school activities and held several offices in the student body as well as being voted the outstanding athlete of the year during his senior year.

    Highlands University

    An organic chemistry senior at Highlands University was tapped from among 17,000 applicants for a National Science Foundation graduate fellowship.

    Melecio Perea, who also has his pick of seven Ph.D. programs, was awarded a three-year NSF fellowship of $34,000 a year.

    Perea, a 22-year-old Las Vegas native, said the magnitude of the award is still sinking in.

  • Friday, April 15, 1966 — Two bomb threats were investigated today in Las Vegas. One threat was made in a telephone call to Robertson High School. The other was directed to the chief of police. At Robertson, an office worker answered a telephone about 10:25 a.m. and without any preliminaries a person said, “Evacuate the building — there’s a bomb in it,” the worker said.
