No longer must you choose between your favorite dessert (chocolate) and the traditional choice (pumpkin pie) on Thanksgiving. We have combined these two into a perfectly rich and chocolaty treat that honors tradition while satisfying your real cravings.

This simple pie also can be dressed up. Whipped cream is an obvious choice, as are chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Take it even further with a drizzle of warm chocolate sauce, warm maple syrup, or warmed pumpkin butter.

The Board of Trustees of Ride To Pride will host  its Fifth Annual Benefit Dinner, Auction and Dance starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, at the Night Owl. The evening will feature food, fellowship, laughter and music in celebration of 14 years of services provided to hundreds of youth and families from the communities.

Every year the city of Las Vegas has a great Summer Youth Employment Program during this eight- week program these employees help beautify, keep the community clean and learn the importance of recycling.

This year the employees had the opportunity to work at the City Recycle Area and also help the student volunteers at the Highlands University Recycle Center.

SANTA FE  — There are plenty of people in Santa Fe — not to mention greater Northern New Mexico, the entire state and probably the vast American Southwest — who make their own salsa. A significant percentage, too, have most likely fantasized about packaging and selling that salsa. One Santa Fe resident, however, will tell you it’s not a project to be taken lightly.

Free health screenings and information will be featured at the free Community Health Fair sponsored by Alta Vista Regional Hospital from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the city of Las Vegas Abe Montoya Recreation Center gymnasium.

“I look forward to visiting with community members at this years’ health fair,” says Maridel Acosta, chief executive officer at Alta Vista Regional Hospital. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness on health promotion and health education.”
