  • Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1965 — Voices of Las Vegans were raised in protest against the proposed sever and garbage rate increases Tuesday night at University Hall, with a number demanding that the people be allowed to vote on this controversial issue. According to the figures presented, this proposed ordinance would mean an increase for some families from the present $3 per year they are now charged, to $30 a year.

  • Monday, Dec. 6, 1965 — It was announced today that the Help for the Needy Club will keep the Goodwill store on Bridge Street at the old Katz s5 and 10 Cent Store open every day, Monday through Saturday, until the New Year. Distribution of clothing, shoes and other items will be announced later. Anyone with a coal or wood heater or a portable oil heater that they would lend for use at the store would be greatly appreciated, as the store was unable to remain open last year, due to lack of heat.

  • Friday, Dec. 3, 1965 — At a special meeting last night, City Council adopted an ordinance providing for annexation of a 44.05 tract of land at the north edge of the City. A petition signed by all property owners within the tract concerned, was presented to the Council by Bill Hanna and John S. Collins who, as a corporation, own about 70 percent of the land. The land, formerly owned by Dick Kierig, lies along the east side of Seventh Street Extension, from near the U.S. Army Reserve building to Lee Drive.

    The New Mexico Environment Department will host several public meetings in various locations around the state in order to share information, answer questions and receive initial public input on the options available for developing a State Implementation Plan in response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Power Plan.
