  • Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1965 — Fire fighting equipment en route to an alarm on Commerce early Tuesday afternoon was forced to go to a crossing several blocks north of University in order to get around Santa Fe trains which blocked three tracks. A fire in the attic of 113 Commerce caused the alarm,  and both East Las Vegas and E. Romero trucks headed for the crossing at the end of Jackson, only to find it blocked by a freight train.

  • Monday, Dec. 20, 1965 — In a show of force, several state liquor inspectors were in Las Vegas Saturday night checking local liquor establishments. State Liquor Director Howard Babcock’s office today termed the visit “routine inspections”; however, an earlier report indicated they were a show of strength by the State Liquor Division, probably resulting from a Dec. 4 incident involving Las Vegans and a liquor inspector.

  • Thursday, Dec. 16, 1965 — Major Ivan Ray Litherland has returned to Las Vegas following a year in Viet Nam. He was recently awarded the Bronze Star, the Air Medal and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Major Litherland left Las Vegas Dec. 15, 1964 for duty in Viet Nam. While he was away, his wife, Joyce, and their children remained in Las Vegas. Upon his arrival, he was met by his wife and family and by Joyce’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Hilton.

  • Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1965 — Loot from three break-ins in the City Sunday night has been recovered, and four suspects arrested, City Police Chief Arthur Esquibel said Monday night. They are suspected of breaking into Robertson High School and stealing two typewriters. It is believed the same four entered Kimbell Lumber Co., taking tools and appliances including power saws, power drills, sanders, knives and mixers.
