  • Tuesday, March 1, 1966 — A resident of Ribera, who is the father of four small children, two of them in school at Ribera, complained today because of the schools being closed in his area to “allow teachers to play politics in West Las Vegas.” The schools were closed in West Las Vegas, Ribera, San Jose, Bernal and Villanueva. “The people of our community have nothing to do with West Las Vegas elections, and why should we have to keep our children from school to accommodate the School Board?” asked the resident.

  • •Casa de Samaritan Homeless Shelter at 716 Grand Ave. is operating every night, providing meals, laundry and hot showers from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The shelter is open for overnight stays Nov. 1 to March 31. The Thrift Store, at Seventh and Legion, offers vouchers for clothing. Samaritan House offers a food pantry distribution every second and fifth Wednesday. Applications for rental services for those who may qualify are available call 454-1390.
