  • Tuesday, Jan. 18, 1966 — A $2,800,000 contract to manufacture 100-foot cargo parachutes has been awarded to the Jayval Company of New Mexico, Ivan Hilton, president of the firm announced today. “This contract, the largest in the history of the company, will give us a backlog of contracts amounting to $3,750,000 going into 1966,” Hilton said this morning after word was received from the Army Aviation Supply Command in St. Louis, Mo.

Meeting at the San Miguel county court house, 20 representatives of local high schools and Highlands University heard Brother Godfrey C. Reggis, F.S.C., of St Michael’s High School in Santa Fe tell of the program as it’s been carried on there.

  • Tuesday, Jan. 11, 1966 — Members of the City Council were kept on the “hot seat” for better than three hours Monday as a petition containing several hundred signatures, with many of the signers present, two property owners were appealing decisions of the Zoning Board and another group protesting the changing of an industrial zone to residential. Councilmen agreed it was the liveliest meeting they had had at a regular meeting of the group for many months.

The Hawks, sponsored by 15 Las Vegas merchants, will square off in their first of only two home games against the Los Alamos Rams, according to coach Robert Bickham. A girl figure skater from Albuquerque is expected to put on an exhibition between periods of the hockey game.
