• Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1965 — Dedication ceremonies for Melody Hall, the recently completed women’s dormitory on the Highlands University campus, will take place Sunday, according to Dr. Thomas C. Donnelly, president of Highlands. The dormitory is named after Gordon E. Melody, state senator from San Miguel County. Melody Hall houses 100 girls and has dining facilities for 200 students. The building and its facilities cost approximately $675,000 and was constructed by W.R. Bauske and Co. of Clovis.

  • Friday, Nov. 12, 1965 — American Legion Post 24 burned the mortgage on the American Legion property north of Las Vegas near the rodeo grounds. The mortgage has been completely paid off. At the ceremony were Legionnaires Ned Winston, J. Harvey Brown, Commander Sammy Martinez, Max Sandoval, Dale Gerdeman, George Lingnau, John Carlson and Seth Gray.

  • Friday, Nov. 5, 1965 — Two Highlands University students are being questioned by City Police today in connection with a burglary at Hilton’s warehouse, Eleventh and National, last night. The two were arrested last night after police found them under a car inside the warehouse. Entry was gained through a broken window; however, police learned the window had been broken since morning. Two boxes of parachutes and nylon straps taken in the burglary were recovered by police.

  • Friday, Nov. 5, 1965 — The new pastor for the Assembly of God Church, 1022 Second St., is the Rev. T.E. Dyer. The Rev. and Mrs. Dyer came to Las Vegas from Taos, where they have been for the past four years. They spent seven years in Newcastle, Va., and were in evangelistic work for 17 years in every state but Florida, and were also in Alaska and Canada. They have three children.
